Institute of Translation and Interpreting
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) is a membership organisation representing over 3,000 translators and interpreters across the UK and internationally. Translation is the process of transferring meaning from one written language to another and interpreting transfers meaning from one spoken language to another, all the while maintaining the essence and context of the original. Translation and interpreting is crucial because it enables communication between diverse cultures, breaking down language barriers in business, diplomacy, technology, medicine, literature and more.
Our Members work in over 250 language combinations such as English to French and German to Spanish, to less common combinations such as Arabic to German and Norwegian to Danish. But just because you know a language, doesn’t mean you can translate or interpret everything. Our members work in 189 different specialisms, including finance, cyber security, public health, football, environmental campaigning and tourism.
